Shuttlebirds!

I just wanted to post quickly today to remind everyone that registration for the Shuttlebirds workshop is OPEN! Mark your calendars for April 15-16 in Spokane, WA.

Somehow I’ve ended up agreeing to teach during all 5 class periods and I just heard that one of my classes (on tatting an awesome coin purse) is already full.  I should take that as a really good sign it’s time for me to get off my butt and tat up my samples and write up my patterns.

I suspect that the next couple weeks I’ll probably be focused on that and most of my Priscilla tatting time will be working on the doily and the baby bonnet.  Hopefully, I’ll still have the time to work out some new Priscilla patterns.  I’ll definitely want to teach something from the Priscilla books next year so I want to have some options to show people at the workshop this year and get feedback.

The Shuttlebirds workshop is always a ton of fun.  I love getting to hang out with other tatters.  April 15th can’t get here soon enough!

Hello! I just found your website via Knitting Club and see that you will be in Spokane April 15 and 16. I would love to learn a new craft. Where will you be? How much for the class? Would I need to attend both days? Thanks.

    Hi Cheryl,

Yup, I’ll be at Shuttlebirds this year teaching tatting. Here’s the page on their site with more information about the workshop.

You can sign up for both days or just one and on Saturday they have two all-morning beginner classes (one for shuttle tatting and one for needle tatting) that I’d recommend. It’s lots of fun. Hope you can join us!

Would you recommend one style over the other? It does look like fun.

I’m a shuttle tatter all the way. I think most tatters are primarily shuttle tatters, but that’s probably because it’s older and people do whatever they were taught. Needle tatting is generally easier to learn, but shuttle tatting is faster once you get the hang of it and there’s a few more things that you can do with shuttle tatting that you can’t with needle tatting.

Not really a direct answer. Maybe I’d say that if you’re interested in just checking it out, go with needle, but if you think it’s something you’ll get into then go to with shuttle tatting.

Thanks for your feedback. I was thinking of “old school” so shuttle it is.
I checked the website and guess we missed the deadline and are now into late registration. 🙁
If my sister is still interested, I hope to meet you there.
    Thanks again.

Excellent. Glad you’re interested in learning tatting. Shuttlebirds is a great way to get started with it. You’ll learn a lot and really get inspired by all the stuff you’ll find. Since you’re in Spokane you’ll have access to the guild and lots of fantastic teachers.
